Waterdance and Watsu at an incredible spa hotel in Bodrum… Kempinski Resort Barbaros Bay, Bodrum, is anxiously looking forward to the appearance of  lifecoach, Deniz Susever till 20th Oct 2013. An expert in substitute treatments, Deniz will be presenting a range of new and de-stressing treatment treatments to the spa at this wellness hotel on the shores of  Turkey.

Deniz Susever is a master in these uncommon treatments which will be offered at Kempinski Resort Barbaros Bay. She began her journey of substitute treatments and treatment efforts in 1997 and after being presented to yoga exercises, she decided to go to Rishikesh, Indian to become a Yoga Trainer, later coming back there to study Integrative Massage treatment. Deniz has excellent charm in Watsu, Tantsu and The water dancing (WATA) Therapy and for the last six years she has been a Vipassana Meditator.

We’re really excited to announce that one of our favourite retreats, Kamalaya Wellness Sanctuary & Holistic Spa, was honoured with the award for Destination Spa of the Year: Asia & Australasia at the World Spa Awards hosted in London on Sunday evening.

The World Spa Awards is a new initiative that has been introduced by some of the leading figures in the spa industry.  Kamalaya faced exceptional competition from across the world and was shortlisted alongside three other finalists in the Asia & Australasia region.  Four other regions were recognised by the awards including America (North & South), Africa, Middle East & Africa and Europe.

We’re told that each of the shortlisted properties underwent some serious scrutiny by an expert judging panel which included two site visits, one by an ‘official judge’ and one by a ‘mystery judge’ who stayed at the resort undercover!

Shiatsu began in Japan some 100 years ago, although its origin may lie in traditional Chinese medicine. The treatment involves using the fingers, thumb and palms to massage and stretch the body. The shiatsu treatment traditional hands on Japanese healing and literally means  ‘finger pressure’ (“shi” meaning finger and “atsu” meaning pressure). The technique uses rolling, brushing, vibrating, grasping motions to concentrate on your energy, however it is not suggested for people with a history of blood clots, varicose veins, or bruises, cuts, burns, or external swelling of any kind. While most people experience an immediate sense of relaxation after Shiatsu treatments, some suffer from headache or flu like symptoms anywhere from a few hours to a day after the treatment due to the release of excessive toxins in your bloodstream.

There are number of different style of shiatsu, some concentrating on acupressure points and some addressing the body. Shiatsu can help in a wide range of  conditions ranging from specific injuries to general symptoms of poor health. Shiatsu is a deeply relaxing experience and regular sessions help to prevent the build up of stress in our daily lives. SITTING CORRECTLY

Place your pillow in the hollow of your lower back to keep the natural curves of your spine. Try not to cross your legs – this will help your back and circulation. Sit upright. Avoid compressing your spine by sitting with your weight evenly balanced on each buttock. Try to lengthen your body right through to the top of your head. Keep your shoulders relaxed and try to locate the deep abdominal muscles that support your spine. Breathe in deeply, into your sides and, as you breathe out, pull your lower abdominals back towards your spine. Breathe normally now, keeping the abdominal muscles scooped.

SHOULDER CIRCLES

Sit tall, but move forward a little in your seat. Bring your shoulders up towards your ears, and then circle them back downwards. Imagine you have pencils on the tips of your shoulders and you have to draw big circle with them. Repeat this six times, then lift your shoulders towards your ears, and drop them back down six times.

NECK ROLLS

Sit back in your seat and flatten the headrest. Gently and slowly allow your head to roll one side, without forcing it, then back through the centre and slowly towards the other side. Try to keep the back of your neck long, and your shoulders relaxed as possible. Repeat the exercise several times.

STANDING

Stand tall, feet parallel and hip-width apart. Come up on your toes. Think ‘tall’ as you lower your heels back down. Bend your knees so that they are directly over the centre of each foot. Yours heels should stay down, and your feet should not roll in or out. Try not to stick your bottom out to tuck it under. Slowly straighten your legs and return to start position. Repeat the exercise ten times.

ANKLE CIRCLES

Sit tall in your seat. Place the pillow under your right thigh, just above the knee. Keep your weight even. Now rotate your right foot around, keeping the whole keg as still as possible. Make ten circles in both directions with each foot.

CALF EXERCISE

Still sitting tall, take your foot back underneath the seat a little. Keeping your foot flat, push the toes and ball of your foot into the floor, hold for the count of five, then release. Now push your heel into the floor, for the count of five, then release. Repeat these two actions with the knee at a right angle and with the leg stretched out a little. You should feel the work deep in your calf.
